BIO-TRANSFORMED ® VITAMIN AND MINERAL YEASTS
Brief Manufacturing Description
In 1991 Bio-Foods, Ltd. was founded to persue a radically different course in the production of vitamin and mineral ingredients for the nutritional supplement industry. Utilizing one of Nature's most cherished beneficial food micro-organisms (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) Bio-Foods transforms USP and FCC vitamins and minerals from pure isolated chemicals into complex components of a whole food matrix, which is how nutrients are found in Nature. This is accomplished through Bio-Foods' proprietary yeast fermentation processes.
Bio-Transformed ® Vitamin and Mineral Yeasts are produced by enriching liquid food media with the particular vitamin or mineral prior to a lengthy active fermentation phase. Substantial amounts of water are required for true fermentation, so Bio-Foods utilizes a state-of-the-art water purification system (certainly one of the most sophisticated in our industry) to provide water meeting the highest standards of purity.
No animal derived proteins or carbohydrates, such as gelatin or lactose, nor any modified starch such as maltodextrine is used to make the fermentation media; only whole plant foods including NON-GMO, NON HEXANE WASHED soy.
The prepared media is then inoculated with a substantial amount of live Saccharomyces cerevisiae yeast and allowed to ferment for up to 72 hours. During this phase, the USP and FCC vitamin and mineral isolates are transformed into highly complex foods in which the nutrient (as in all natural foods) is in complex formation with other constituents of the food matrix.
Next the yeast is inactivated with the help of proteolytic enzymes. The product is then spray dried and subjected to rigorous quality assurance analysis including appropriate microbiological testing.
Nature intended us to consume nutrients as complex components of foods--not as separate bits of purified chemical crystals and powders. There is a synergy, wholesomeness, and completeness to food. Every year brings more evidence for the interlocking relationships between nutrients and phytonutrients in foods.
Worthy of Note:
1) Each nutrient yeast is a separately fermented and produced product.
2) The media for a number of products contains an additional ingredient selected for synergy, such as bioflavonoids for vitamin C and alfalfa for folic acid.
3) The "elemental" potencies we claim for our nutrient contents are not average numbers. They are minimum potency amounts.
4) No extraction, washing, or processing is performed upon the spray-dried yeast food powders (Bio-Transformed
® nutrients).
5) No amount of additional USP or FCC vitamins or minerals are ever added to "standardize" (spike) potencies after the fermentation phase has transformed the original amount included in the media.
6) Yeast cell walls are no longer intact in the finished product. First, proteolytic enzymes are added at the very end of the fermentation phase to help weaken or brake the cell walls. Before reaching the spray-drying chamber the liquid is put through a homogenizer which breaks a significant amount of the cell walls. Then, during spray-drying most of the remaining unbroken yeast cells tend to burst, further eliminating the presence of intact cell walls in the dryed product. Breaking of the yeast cell walls helps to render the yeast inactive, improve digestibility, and avoid allergic reactions to intact active yeast cells.
7) Every batch is analyzed to confirm that Candida albicans is absent.
8) No preservatives are used by Bio-Foods nor allowed in the ingredients it purchases.
